What Are Direct Thermal Labels?

Direct thermal labels use a heat-sensitive coating that darkens when passed under a heated printhead, creating text or barcodes without the need for a thermal ribbon.

These labels are compatible with a wide range of printers, including mobile, desktop, and industrial models—making them suitable for everything from handheld printers on the warehouse floor to high-speed systems in distribution centers. Popular printer brands that support direct thermal labels include Zebra, SATO, TSC, Honeywell, and Datamax.

We offer direct thermal labels in multiple core sizes to fit your printer— 0.75” for mobile, 1” for desktop, and 3” for industrial models. Fanfold labels are also available and work in both desktop and industrial printers.
